Kuala Lumpur: bird park

03.22.2012

Our first full day in Malaysia's capital city!

Chinese rice porridge for breakfast
From a Buddist monk

Malaysian Ringgit, about 3 RM per 1 USD at the moment.  The 1's are really tiny and cute.

In search of better sleeping quarters

Malaysia was colonized by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and lastly the British.  For whatever it's worth, the latter is what made this Crunchie possible.

Cool abandoned house

Sugar Nav.

We became quite intimate with all forms of public KL transportation

Monorail is my favorite!

National mosque

Miniature novelty Stonehenge for whatever reason...

Found this little guy scratching around in the shrubbery

Ling Xing
TL;DR: Birds and bird poop everywhere

Black robes from head to toe, and I saw a few wearing burqas

Smelly lagoon

Righteous dome crest

Especially pungent

Will haunt my dreams

Beautiful plumage

Peachick

This one was stamping its feet in a really adorable way

At this particular pond in the bird park I had a rather interesting experience.  I noticed two male ducks chasing a female around to try and coerce her into sex.  It was easy to discern that she was not at all happy about this situation.  So even though I usually try not to have such a heavy hand in determining the outcome of natural matters, I decided to help a sister out and break up the gang-rape with a formidable combination of yelling, clapping, and general shooing.  After a couple attempts at getting to her, the males learned that I was her protector and they kept their distance from me.  She also knew this, as she swam up next to me any time the males made any advances toward her.  She later wandered off somewhere, and the males were left to their own devices, but I hope my actions instilled a lasting fear and respect for all that is woman in those small mallard minds.

Female in the bottom left, and the rapists on the other side of the barrier

I learned that I am quite a powerful ally for a duck.

Ending the night with scrumptious chicken murtabak.
