Bangkok ---> Lopburi

10.17.2011

Right after I posted the first blog a few days ago we experienced our first Thai rain.  This is an accidental video I took when I was trying to clean the lens and take a picture.  Also included is a photo of a neat tissue dispenser from the hostel.

After some lazing around we headed out in the rain in search for some odds and ends.  We hit a 7-11 of which there are many here.

We went to shopping center nearby that ended up being a very high-end mall rather than the Thai equivalent of a Target that we sought.  The mall had some type of Avatar/jungle exhibit going on which was attracting a lot of attention from shoppers.

On our way out, we noticed a handful of masked falcons on display.  I am guessing this somehow went with the jungle theme, but I really can't be sure.

Dragonfruit at a nearby grocery store, and some cheap sandals complete with koosh balls that I thought were a solid footwear investment.

A few snaps of street vendors on the way back to the hostel for the night.

The next morning we were picked up by Santipot (director of the school) and Pieter (HR directer of the school), along with 5 other teachers (3 of whom we will be teaching with in Sakon Nakon).  We expected to go straight to Sakon Nakon, but we were told all the roads leading there were flooded.  So our destination changed to Lopburi (Pieter's hometown), where we might stay for up to a week depending on the state of the flooding.

 We dropped off two of the teachers in Sakon Pathom, about an hour north of Bangkok.  We all hopped out and took a quick look at their school.  It had a few new buildings that were sponsored by the princess of Thailand, and she was there for the opening ceremony.

From there it took 6 full hours to get to Lopburi. We hit some insane traffic around 4pm, and this is the most flooded road we drove through - it was like a wading pool!
